BRIEF: Kate Spade brand pledges $1 million to mental-health organizations

June 20--Kate Spade New York, the namesake brand of the late designer, will donate $1 million to support suicide prevention and mental-health awareness causes, the company announced Wednesday.

The brand is giving $250,000 to the Crisis Text Line , a free, 24-hour confidential text message service for people in crisis. The company said it will match public donations made to the service from June 20 through June 29, up to an amount of $100,000.

Kate Spade New York also says it will host a Global Mental Health Awareness Day for employees as part of its Wellness Program.

"Kate Spade was a true fashion icon who brought joy to the lives of women around the world, and inspired women to live life to the fullest. We are dedicated to carrying on her legacy," Anna Bakst, the CEO of Kate Spade New York, said in a statement.

The 55-year-old fashion designer was found dead after committing suicide on June 5.
